I’ve mentioned our California road trip a few times on the blog since John and I started planning it but to recap: for our second wedding anniversary in May, John and I are road tripping from San Diego, California to Portland, Oregon. We started planning the trip in mid-2012 and now it’s only 2 months away! I can’t believe it. I need a vacation.
One of the things we really wanted to do while we were in California was eat at The French Laundry (being as obsessed with Thomas Keller as we are). If you don’t know, The French Laundry is located in the Napa Valley region of CA and is regarded as the best restaurant in the United States. It has several James Beard awards and was recently inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame in 2012. So, as you can imagine, it is notoriously hard to get a reservation there. There are dozens of websites just dedicated to how to get a reservation there (here are some examples). The process is very specific – reservations open up 2 months prior, to the date, at 10AM Pacific time. I wasn’t worried though, getting a reservation at Alinea in Chicago was near impossible and we did it. I had a good feeling…
So yesterday was 2 months to the date when we wanted to go so both John and I called and redialed almost 75 times between the two of us. I was also constantly refreshing The French Laundry’s Open Table page. Somehow, miraculously, an open time appeared on Open Table! I panicked, then squealed, then made the reservation, then called John and we freaked out.
We’re going to The French Laundry!
SO JEALOUS. You must promise to devote at least two entire posts to that meal. Puh-leeze. Do it for all of us foodies who married non-foodies and can only dream of ever going. (As my husband mutters over my shoulder, ‘who eats at a restaurant with the word laundry in the name?’) ((sigh)) I cannot wait to hear (and see) the spoils of that trip. Such a fun idea!
Haha! I will do that!
If you haven’t already planned, you MUST see Big Sur. Just got back from our California road trip. Not enough time in the world to see it all! :) enjoy!
Thanks, I will check that out!
