One of my rookie moves as an amateur juice enthusiast was to concoct all kinds of juices with like 10 ingredients in them (beets! kale! pineapple! cucumber! cantaloupe! parsley! apple! peppers!). It’s a lot going on flavor-wise and a lot to prep in the morning. This week I decided to simplify and go with a juice with just four ingredients. I call this my rise and shine juice because, well, this juice will make you feel totally awake and ready to attack the day.
Domestocrat’s Rise and Shine Juice (makes 1 serving)
2 large carrots
1/2 large grapefruit, peeled
1 medium navel orange, peeled
1 knob of fresh ginger (about 1” or so)
It really couldn’t be easier to prep this juice – just trim the ends off the carrots and peel the grapefruit and orange.
Load everything in your juicer according to the manufacturer’s directions and you’ll have this gorgeous sunrise in a glass.
It’s slightly sweet, slightly tart, and slightly earthy. I think these flavors blend together perfectly. Good ‘til the last drop!
I’m seriously looking at juicers because of your posts – dying to try! I just saw a crazy news story yesterday about grapefruit and drug interactions. I don’t think it’s new, but it was definitely news to me! This isn’t the story (I think I saw it on CBS Morning) , but this is basically what it covered: http://www.examiner.com/article/prescriptions-interacting-with-your-food-deadly-results?cid=rss.
Nice – ours was only $60 and I love it!
Interesting, I hadn’t hear of that before. I’m going to look into that further!
