Road Trip to Syracuse, NY: Saranac Brewery, BC Football, & BBQ

John and I made plans months back to go see BC vs. Syracuse in their last game of the season at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse with our friends Casey and Liz. The game was the major focal point of the trip but we surrounded the rest of it with Dinosaur BBQ, trips to Wegmans, and a visit to the Saranac Brewery in Utica. Come along!

What’s a road trip if it doesn’t begin with bagels in the car?

We left Boston on the Friday after Thanksgiving at 9AM and got to Utica right on time for our 3PM Saranac Brewery Tour. It was one of the biggest breweries we’ve ever been to! Check out my review for all the details.

After the tour and tasting, we descended on the brewery store…

Afterward it was on to Syracuse to Dinosaur BBQ for some dinner. A 2 hour wait later and we stuffed ourselves with some of the finest BBQ in the world. It was our third time there but Casey and Liz’s first, it was fun to share the experience with them!

Hungry man!

The next morning Casey and Liz picked us up at 8:30AM, we picked up a bunch of tailgating goodies at Wegmans, and froze our butts off in the snow in one of the many parking lots at the Carrier Dome.

The Carrier Dome was crazy. It felt like watching football in a warehouse. The energy was great though especially in our BC fans section!

BC WON! Let’s Go Eagles! We were in the minority of being happy about the win, obviously but the Syracuse fans were all great to us.

We celebrated with a second trip to Dinosaur BBQ! Ha! There’s very little to do in Syracuse, clearly. This time we only wait an hour and a half. We considered this a bonus.

After our second round of BBQ we turned in to our respective hotels and then headed back home on Sunday. It was a great little road trip and mini vacation. Glad to get away, have a good times with good friends, and see a BC victory!

  1. Totally jealous of the BBQ and Wegmans! I went to college in Rochester, so I’ve been meaning to make a Dino trip for some time…and I proudly flaunt my reusable Wegmans bags when I go to Shaw’s :)

    1. It was such an awesome time. We have Wegmans bags too which we also flaunt with pride. You have to go to Dinosaur! The one in Troy, NY is only 2 hours or so via the Pike. Totally doable! ;)
