Recipe: The Best Baked Ziti

Interested in cheesy, saucy, meaty bites of perfectly cooked ziti? Have a seat.

Recipe: Domestocrat’s Best Baked Ziti (yields 6-8 servings)
1 lb. ground italian sausage (I use hot, mild is good too!)
1 box (16 oz) of ziti or rigatoni
1 jar (26 oz) of your favorite marinara sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 cups fresh ricotta cheese
Spices and seasoning, to taste

This recipe is super easy. Start by getting the pasta water boiling. At the same time, brown the sausage in a big pan over medium heat until it’s cooked through. Set aside to cool a bit.

When the water comes to a boil, cook the pasta until al dente (or maybe just a bit underdone if you like a bite to your pasta). It’s going to cook more in the oven so you definitely don’t want mushy pasta. When the pasta is cooked, strain it and then run under cool water to bring down the temperature.

Add the pasta, jar of sauce, mozzarella cheese, and seasoning to the pan you cooked the meat in. Toss to combine thoroughly.

Add the whole mixture to a baking dish and bake on 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes (until the mozzarella cheese has melted). Take out of the oven, dollop the ricotta all over the top, and broil for 3-5 minutes until golden brown on top.

That’s it! This recipe really couldn’t be any simpler. Serve and and enjoy!
