Recipe: Grapefruit, Carrot, and Ginger Juice Smoothie

I love making smoothies. I love juicing. So it’s only natural to combine the two, right? I wasn’t sure it would work and have been experimenting for a while. I think I may have finally found a winner.

Domestocrat’s Grapefruit, Carrot, and Ginger Juice Smoothie (makes 1 serving)
1/2 grapefruit
2 carrots
1/2 inch piece of ginger
1 tsp. ground flax seed
2 tbsp. vanilla protein powder
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1/4 cup vanilla almond milk
Handful of ice cubes

First, juice up the grapefruit, carrots, and ginger. Super easy in my Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor. The juice should fill up about half of a 12 oz. mason ball jar.

Next add the flax seed, protein powder, and chia seeds.

Add a handful of ice cubes and top off with the almond milk. A mason jar will fit perfectly on your blender with the blender blade attachment. Simply screw it on to the bottom of the jar exactly how you would with the full sized blender container and let it rip!

This juice-smoothie is really light, super refreshing, and full of good stuff. All of the mix-ins add a lot of body and depth to the juice. I can totally see adding in some greek yogurt or some silken tofu next time. Definitely something I plan to keep in the rotation!
