This smoothie is called the Super Smoothie because it is bursting with things that are great for you. There’s tons of antioxidants, protein, and Vitamin C. And no added sugar! The natural deliciousness of the blueberries really masks the flavor of everything else which is nice especially if you’re weirded out at the thought of drinking raw spinach (which you can’t taste at all!).
Domestocrat’s Blueberry Chocolate Super Smoothie (yields one smoothie)
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1/4 cup greek yogurt
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1 tsp. ground flax seed
2 tbsp. chocolate protein powder
1/2 tsp. cocoa powder
1/4 cup unsweetened, vanilla almond milk
4 tbsp. light coconut milk
One big handful of baby spinach
Add all of the ingredients to a medium sized (12 oz.) mason jar. Looks appetizing, no?
A mason jar will fit perfectly on your blender with the blender blade attachment. Simply screw it on to the bottom of the jar exactly how you would with the full sized blender container. It couldn’t be simpler. I used a 12 oz. mason jar here but I think any size (except wide mouthed jars) will work here.
This recipe is perfect to drink right after it’s blended or to make ahead for the next day. The mason jar is a handy way to have a delicious and nutritious smoothie when you’re on the go. I love making this the night before and having a stress-free breakfast waiting for me.
Like these quilted coasters? I made them! Check them out here.
This sounds great! Questions:
– what kind of greek yogurt do you use?
– cocoa powder: unsweetened? sweetened?
– where can I get these seeds?
1) I use all kinds of greek yogurt! Chobani, Fage, Trader Joe’s brand. I’d recommend any of them but I like Chobani the best.
2) Unsweetened cocoa powder. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a sweetened version since it’s mostly used for baking…but definitely get unsweetened!
3) You can buy chia seeds at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or even at the Vitamin Shoppe!
One thing about chia seeds though – they aren’t for everyone. They start as seeds but once they are introduced to liquid they kind of become like gel and have a tapioca-like consistency. Basically they absorb any liquid they are mixed with. This is super good for you though because it helps the body stay hydrated, and is why I love chia seeds. You can read more about them here: https://domestocrat.wordpress.com/2011/03/16/the-10-best-foods-you-arent-eating/
I meant more like what flavor greek yogurt :) Plain, vanilla, honey, etc?
Thanks!
Oh! Derp! You could use any flavor you like though but I find anything flavored has a buttload of sugar added to it so I stick with plain.
