Quick Trip: Austin, Texas

My apologies for the radio silence last week, I was in Austin for a work conference Wednesday through Friday. I had a few blogs queued up but was so busy during the day then wiped by the end of the day I wasn’t able to post them. So, good stuff coming this week! Until then, here’s a small recap of the few fun things I got to do in Austin.

On Wednesday I went to Franklin Barbecue for some Texas-style Q.

It was very good! It wasn’t better than anything else on the rest of our BBQ adventures but still was really yummy stuff.

I also took a Duck Tour in Austin which was pretty lackluster (especially compared to how amazing the Boston duck tour is). I got to see most of the city though which was nice. Here are some shots from that:

The highlight of my trip was eating the best taco I’ve ever had at Torchy’s Tacos. It was pulled pork, pickles, sour cream, jack cheese, and onions. So good! I wish I could have taken home a dozen. No doubt I’ll be recreating this at home sometime soon.

I saw the sunrise from my hotel window both mornings I was in Austin because I got up early to go to the gym before the conference (gotta try to keep things normal even when I’m away from home). So pretty.

Overall, the trip was just alright. It was mostly work filled and the conference itself put me on information overload. I was also pretty homesick the whole time; it was hard to be away from John, the cat, and our house. I’m glad I went though and do hope to return someday.

Have you ever been to Austin? What are your impressions?

  1. I love Torchy’s!! My favorite barbecue joint (so far) is Ruby’s (not to be confused with Rudy’s). I haven’t had Franklin yet.
