Hurricane Irene Recap

Here in Somerville we were hit by Hurricane Irene but not as bad as forecasted. Still, we hunkered down Saturday-Sunday and said a prayer our new house wouldn’t blow away or flood (neither happened, relief!). Despite the impending doom, it was really nice to enjoy some uninterrupted time together with John. Here’s a little recap of what we did to pass the time as shut-ins.

Saturday night we kept tabs on the weather, of course…

I read a bit…

Made stove-top Smores…

And we watched some pre-season football.

On Sunday we slept in and then woke up to this view from the porch (not too bad):

We made breakfast just as the wind and rain were at their worst…

Reggie hid…

John hung the last of our blinds (Side note: I knew we wouldn’t be leaving the house for two days so I allowed this ridiculous facial hair to stay)…

And finally, as the storm was passing, we watched a movie and all snuggled together on the couch.

No water leakage, roof is ok, and our power never went out. I feel very lucky and happy that our new house was fine through the whole thing.

How did you fare in the storm?

  1. There is nothing ridiculous about my facial hair. The only ridiculous thing was when you made me shave it off.
