Now that we are completely obsessed with my Feta Guacamole, I needed to find a quick and relatively healthy homemade delivery system. In other words, chips!
Pita chips in a bag are alright but they are often too hard and super salty. Making them at home is simple and you can season them a million different ways. I randomly came up with this recipe and it has won us over totally. I’ll never go back to bagged!
Kim’s Pita Chips
1.5 tbsp parmesan cheese
1.5 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 cup EVOO
4 round pitas, cut into wedges – Josephs is my preferred brand (60 calories per pita!)
Mix everything in a bowl together, drizzling in the EVOO, to combine thoroughly.
Take your pita bread and cut into wedges of any size. I ended up with 8 chips per pita, totaling 32 chips. I love Joseph’s Flax, Oat Bran, and Whole Wheat Pitas, they are very low cal and have 6g of protein each (check out the nutritional information here).
Arrange your pita bread on a cookie sheet and brush on your spice and oil mixture. My favorite pastry brush comes from IKEA, I use it all the time! It’s silicone which I think is more sanitary than bristle brushes and you can toss it in the dishwasher.
Bake your chips at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, rotating once halfway through.
These came out perfect! If you prefer a harder crunch you may want to bake them longer but these were light and crisp, ideal for us!
