Take Care of Me: July Update

IMG_8750My only resolution for 2013 has been to Take Care Of Me. To me, Take Care Of Me is a life philosophy: when I’m happy, I’m my best self. It’s that simple. January was great, I hit some road blocks in February, had both an injury and progress in March, kept it status quo in April, had an adventurous May, and kickstarted my routine in June. Let’s see how July went!

July was largely spent keeping my June momentum going. Eating right, gymming everyday, integrating in more yoga, getting enough sleep. I actually went mostly dairy-free, white foods-free (white bread, potatoes, rice, other starches), and refined sugar-free in July. It was an experiment in both weight loss and in mood. I have been doing a lot of reading on how, if you have hypothyroid disease as I do, certain foods can de-regulate your thyroid and affect your hormones. Since I have been doing a lot of mood monitoring lately I decided to give this a try to see if it helped at all. I find that my moods fluctuate greatly during the month (with spirits and motivation high at week 1 to completely unmotivated and blah by week 4, that’s my cycle). I’m not sure if it was the food or better stress management or my motivation or just being mindful of it all but I really think July was my best mood month yet. I stayed focused and driven throughout all 4 weeks. It wasn’t easy though, it’s a lot of work to keep it all up. Though, I always say, success creates success so it was easy for me to stay focused with all of my successes of the month behind me.

That said, August is going to be an extremely busy month and I’m nervous going in to it. Every weekend is full on our calendars already, work will be extremely busy, and I have a lot of commitments. It’s not impossible but my success always depends on being able to plan around these types of things. And to relax and Take Care of Me throughout it all.
