If you hadn’t noticed, I haven’t been doing a lot of baking lately but this weekend I felt the urge. I think it was in an attempt to relieve some stress but also to do something that feels natural to me. I find such comfort in being in the kitchen, creating, without a deadline or anywhere else to be. I can endlessly tinker and snap photos. That’s what comes naturally to me. And when I don’t do it, even in the name of eating healthier or needing a little break, I don’t feel like myself.
So, on Saturday, into the kitchen I went. I caught the waning sun while measuring out some brown sugar, listening to Local Natives in slippered feet, my face warm from the pre-heating oven. They are simple moments where my mind is totally free. Sometimes I can’t always say in words what a photograph can capture in an emotion or recollection. This is why I started Project 52: to freeze a very specific place in time of happiness, joy, peace, or calm. I think we can all use more of that in life, or at least a reminder of it anyway.
