Take Care of Me: February Update

When I’m happy, I’m my best self. It’s that simple. I rocked January and now have another month behind me. Let’s see how February went:

Ah, February. I went in with such high hopes. But then I got sick with a cold that lasted for 2.5 weeks (i.e. most of the month).  I’m sure you know of other people who got this year’s winter death rattle. It was not pretty. When I’m sick I want to do nothing but recover as soon as possible so most of the month was spent resting, drinking tea, and trying to get healthy. Another thing that kind of sucked about February was that we had a blizzard followed by two weekends full of non-stop snow. All of that pretty much impeded any plans we had and kept us stuck indoors.

Some good February things included John getting a new job (so proud of him!), us taking a mini trip to Atlantic City (the picture above was from the spa), taking on a huge project at work that’s going well, going to the movies a bunch (I saw Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Identity Thief, and Die Hard 5), going to a bunch of shows (I saw Fun, New Found Glory, and Desparecidos this month), getting new glasses, and planning a bunch for our California/Oregon road trip in May.

Today is the last day of the month and while I feel like it was a total blur, and kind of a junk month overall, I do feel pretty good about Taking Care Of Me even if it meant just getting over being sick. The second I felt better (around the 18th) I jumped right back in to my routine – going to the gym before work in the morning, juicing, eating healthy, reading, and just generally staying on top of things. That felt really good too. I’m very excited and optimistic about March. Bring it on!

  1. Laying low when you are sick is the very definition of Taking Care of Me (not to mention Taking Care Not To Get Anybody Else Sick). It may not be what you planned, but you did take good care of yourself by giving yourself a break to get well. Otherwise you may be dealing with other opportunistic infections that last for much longer, and would further keep you from your goals.

And now, you can attack spring with refreshed energy. Keep up the good work!!

  2. So easy to lose motivation when sickness hits, but part of taking care of yourself is not beating yourself up for a few lay low weeks. I always find lifting heavy helps get me out of a rut and pushes my immune system back into action.
