The Domestocrat Kitchen Upgrade

On Saturday John’s mom and sister threw me a bridal shower in New Jersey. The whole thing was lovely and I am still overwhelmed with gratitude. I didn’t expect to feel so humbled by stuff, but I really do.

The gifts we received were all amazing. I mean, I knew what everything was because we picked it out for our registry but it’s so different when you actually get the things you’ve picked out. It’s finally real!

Here are a few pictures from the actual shower:

Getting home and unpacking everything was an ordeal. I got rid of so much of our old stuff though which was awesome. I hauled 3 loads of garbage downstairs and we had 3 trips worth of recycling too!

We only received about a third of what was on the registry and I still have another bridal shower here in MA and the wedding itself to go! I don’t know where we are going to fit the rest of what we get but I’m just going to focus now on enjoying all of the new things we just got.

Some of the highlights:

All new pots and pans including a gorgeous stainless steel saute pan and a gorgeous Le Creuset dutch oven. I also am loving the TFal nonstick frying pan and TFal cookware set we received.

We also got a brand new set of flatware which seems pretty mundane but is one of the most exciting things we got. Our prior collection was truly pitiful.

We got a Kitchen Aid stand mixer! I have been dreaming of one of these for years. We also got the Breakfast Attachment Kit which includes a sausage grinder, sausage stuffer, and juicer. Expect many a blog showcasing this baby! Heck, I already used it yesterday to make muesli bars.

We also got an awesome multi-cooker: it’s a pressure cooker, rice cooker, and slow cooker all in one! I can’t wait to use it!

Reggie reveled in the huge pile of empty boxes as we unloaded.

I also took home the gorgeous centerpiece that was made for the party. I spiffed it up by separating into 3 different vases and put them around the apartment. It feels so extravagant to have flowers everywhere!

That dutch oven is GLORIOUS! You absolutely have to use it to make Alton Brown’s amazing baked beans: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/the-once-and-future-beans-recipe/index.html

fresh flowers are totally awesome! whenever we have anyone over i use it as an excuse to pick some up and then secretly hope they don’t take them home, heh.

finding room for stuff is CRAZY. when i was living with mike & jen, it was awesome because i got to take part in all the cool gifts (and i got some duplicates for myself, lol!) and now our roommate is a big cookware fanatic. he collects certain things so we have a bunch of le cruset and all clad. i’ll be sad when he leaves, that’s for sure! and making room for it in both places was quite the task but obviously so worth it.

i think this shower came at just the right time for you guys, i’m glad you enjoyed it! (&ps, the multicooker is genius! i’d never heard of one before!)

Everyone keeps telling me I’ll never have enough room, even when we own a house. We’ll just fill that with stuff too. LOL. Hard to imagine!!

It came at the perfect time! Mentally too, I needed a little reward for all of the grunt work we’ve been doing. You know?

The le Crueset pot is probably my favorite thing in our entire kitchen. Because wonderful things are created inside of it? Or because of it’s lovely blue color (we have the same one!)? I don’t know, but it’s amazing.
